1.4     Materials and other learning sources

The material for teaching is to use the book K to 12 Curriculum. One book for students and one book for teachers. Other learning resources are computers & projectors in each class.

 1.5     Measurement and evaluation system

Each end of learning evaluation will be carried out, it is done to see how students understand about the material. The questions given are only about 5-10 questions. The type of question varies depending on the material and method. In addition the teacher also checks student attendance, checks student delays, discipline and neatness. In connection with this is a religious school of course which is the way for every student when praying is also an important assessment.

  1.6     Curriculum

Dominican school Manila focus on the using of English language in the teaching learning process. Dominic School Manila shall adapt the K to 12 Curriculum as enhanced by the CRMSD’s Committee on Education.

  1.7     Teaching plan (Science Subject)

Every learning certainly has a goal that must be achieved, for that it requires learning design that must be made especially in science subjects. Lesson plan consist of Objectives, Subject Matter (Topic, Refrence and Material (s)), Lesson Proper (Prayer, Greetings, Attendance, Recall, Motivation, Discussion, Activity Proper, Valuing, Generalization and Evaluation) and Assignment.

Below is the example of lesson plan that use for Independent Teaching in Science Subject:

2.     Pedagogical Contents

1.1      Teaching methods

Science learning with Ms.Fruelda, my cooperating teacher, is a homeroom teacher from Grade3- Kindness. Based on my observations she is a teacher with good teaching methods, with her expressive expression as if emphasizing discipline for her students so not only for the sake of material interests or values in subjects. She also conveyed the material with the lecture method and related to the daily lives of students. The material presented was easily accepted as evidenced by the results of the evaluation obtained by the students very satisfying.

1.2      Learning materials and innovation

In Learning Science there are two textbooks namely The New Science Links which are intended for teachers and for students. Usually, each student has their own workbook for assessment evaluation.

1.3  Sources of learning and technology

The learning source used is usually the teacher has his own learning handbook, for the material and presentation technology used are such as pictures, videos and powerpoints.

1.4   Authentic assessment

Based on my observations for assessment the teacher usually displays questions on the TV screen. The questions displayed can vary in the form of true or false choices, essays and multiple choices. Students will work on their workbooks or on a piece of paper.

3. Teaching Plan

1.1     Curriculum

Dominic School Manila shall adapt the K to 12 Curriculum as enhanced by the CRMS's Committee on Education. This school is a Catholic school that upholds religious values. Classroom learning partly spreads using English and sometimes uses Fillipino Language.

1.2   Teaching plan (Science Subject)

Before teaching I was required to make Lesson plans so that learning was carried out in a structured manner. The making of learning design can not be separated from the guidance of my cooperating teacher Ms. Fruelda, who was very diligent and patient in teaching and giving directions to me.

Below is the example of lesson plan that use for Grand Teaching Demonstration in Science Subject:

4.     Observation on Teacher(s)

1.1     Planning for teaching

Based on my observations, the teacher made a lesson plan before teaching and preparing the material to be used such as the Power Point Presentation (PPt).

1.2     Preparing lessons and materials

The teacher has already prepared the lesson and the materials to explain the lesson easily and clearly. Ms. Fruelda always starts the class by inviting students to recall the material beforehand to stimulate the students' enthusiasm to learn the next material by giving praise for those who can explain. Furthermore, the material delivered by starting with a game of guessing pictures is very good to motivate students.

1.3     Teaching in class

Ms. Fruelda has excellent teaching skills. She can control students so that their attention is always focused and centered with the material presented.

1.4     Measurement and Evaluation

Each meeting begins with the teacher who always asks students to collect " PETA" and at the end of the meeting, the teacher always holds evaluations in the form of several 5-10 questions to test the understanding of the material that has been submitted.

5.     Teaching Practice

1.1      Procedures of teaching

I got the opportunity to teach three times, including twice for independent teaching, namely taking care of eyes material in Grade3-Honesty on August 30 2018 and Grade3-Kindness on August 31 2018. Followed by the Grand teaching demonstration on September 04 2018 with Taking care of Nose in Grade 3- Honesty. At that time, independent teaching started learning by teaching to play good illusion picture and when the Grand Demonstration material I used the game to guess the smell of an object such as Relia of perfume and efficascent oil to motivate students to be enthusiastic about learning. Followed by learning activities as usual, such as discussion, evaluation and ending with assignments.

1.2      Time management and organizing activities

For one lesson I have 50 minutes. The time given is not short enough, but by
enjoying it the learning process is fun, the time feels less even, it doesn't feel too
past the specified time. So in total I have received 150 minutes of teaching.

1.3      Problem-solving

The problem that I feel the most is the language barrier, most of them have excellent
English language skills above me. Yes, this is my first experience teaching English in
other countries. But fortunately I can overcome it with the confidence that I have
which is important, we are sure of our intention to teach. Although most of them were
able to speak English very well but once when I taught and asked questions they still
answered with the local language, Tagalog.

1.4      Classroom management

When teaching, classroom management is certainly needed. Students in the class
will become passive when someone is only delivering material. So always give
questions that invite students to be active in participating when learning takes place.

6.     Summary and Suggestions

1.1      Purposes of practicum

The purpose of this teaching program is to provide opportunities for students as
prospective teachers to hone teaching skills, how to handle the real situation of
students and classes and learn new cultures from other countries. While the aim of
this program is to create better teachers in the future who are able to compete
globally with better quality in terms of attitude and intellectual.

1.2      Procedures of practicum

The procedure is carried out in a school orientation, then classroom observations, being an assistantship teacher, making learning designs and then conducting independent teaching, grand teaching demonstration and giving feedback or input suggestions.

1.3      Outcomes of practicum

The student teacher gets the knowledge and experience of being a good teacher,
how to teach, classroom management, good material delivery and new knowledge
about Catholicism. Besides that the student teacher also gets new culture about
Philippines such as vehicles, food and so on.

1.4      The challenges of practicum

I get a lot of new challenges, moreover this is the first time I teach in a school that
really has to teach in a country school with English as a fun and tense thing.

1.5      Overall impression

Joining the SEA Teacher program is the best thing I have ever decided. In this
program I gained a lot of new knowledge for my career and my life. I also got a lot of
new friends from the University of Santo Tomas and also teachers from the
dominican School Manila. Especially Ms. Fruelda and I was very lucky to get a
Mentor as good as Mam Cordura who patiently nurtured and helped me in
completing this program.

  1.6      Suggestions for future improvement

It would be good for the recipient campus to be better in all its preparations,
especially havingmore responsibility for all participants, especially for vehicle
accommodation. I think the timegiven for one month is too heavy, it feels like having
to explore a foreign country by relying on personal abilities and Google maps.
