Good BYE Philippines
The Farewell program was over, Kandi and I were
ready to prepare because later at 2:30 pm we were picked up to go to the
airport. Before going back to the dormitory, we also took the time to have
lunch at McDonald’s and also to wrap food to eat at the airport. Arriving at
our dorm was immediately busy. I take a shower while Kandi checks the luggage
so it doesn't spill and vice versa.
It didn't feel like the pickup was waiting
below, Kandi and I said goodbye to friends. They helped us bring the luggage
down. Mam Cordura and Mam Vicente will accompany us to travel to the Airport.
Every meeting there must be a breakup that we did that day, we hugged each
other and hoped that one day we would meet again.
During our trip we went through fun and
joking chatter. Yes, our mentors are really funny and I always feel comforted
when chatting together. Luckily we were not too crowded that day so we arrived
at the airport less than an hour. Mam Cordura and Mam Vincente also escorted us
to the front entrance. They made sure we were right until we went inside. We
parted there and of course I also hoped that one day I could meet again in
another program. Thank you for all the good that has been given to me, even all
of us. See you again Philippines.
Favorite foods in Philippines!
looking for food in accordance with the
provisions of my religion. Adapting to an environment that is predominantly
non-Muslim is not easy. Many of my friends there only knew of our prohibition
not to consume pork, but the definition of halal was not like that. Actually we
are also prohibited from eating in places where there is a pork menu. Because
it is feared that cooking utensils, including plates or spoons, have been
mixed.
It sounds really complicated right, but
that's the rule. The first second week I was filled with junk food (or what is
fast food) almost every day we can eat only KFC and MCD. Actually, even then,
we are not sure whether it is halal or not because in processing chicken / beef
we have a special procedure so that the meat is halal for consumption.
Imagine how wasteful I am? Whahaha but
sometimes I cut it by making noodles. Luckily I brought Indomie. And not
infrequently I also cook sardines and omelet. For savings because I think I'm
still quite long here, the time of my money must be spent first just to eat it
yet.
At that time when I returned to the
practicum, I saw that there was something like a street food like street food
that reads dumplings. Take it easy for me and my friend to ask if this
ingredient is making siomay. Waw turns out they don't sell pork menus. So glad
we were at that time, almost forgot there was not only dumplings but also there
was chicken ball, squid ball, kikiam like tempura in Indonesia. The price is
cheap, one stick is only 10-20PHP. It feels like my tongue, even since it has
been my favorite food, you know. Every day we never stop for food snacks. Yes,
we know it's not a healthy food, but if it's a problem, it's not difficult to
ask.
Foods in the Philippines are mostly sour
and salty. Very few sell spicy food, of course this makes me miss spicy food.
Until finally my friend Lishe and friends introduced us to "Tiger
Winx". The price is quite affordable compared to KFC / MCD hahaha. But it
feels so skyrocketing, the taste feels the same won't be forgotten on this
tongue. They also have various flavors not only spicy, BBQ, Teriyaki and
others.
Since that time both of these foods have
been my favorite there, even though they are still possible. The taste of the
food is really not forgotten!
Farewell Program
September 05 2018 is the last day that
Kandi and I from UPY are in Philippines. At first we were both worried about
not being able to join this last program. But I thank you very much to the University
of Santo Tomas who have advanced the Farewell Program so we can follow before
flying to Indonesia.
The night before the Farewell Program we
were busy preparing what we had to show at the event. While our friends from
Thailand are already busy with their dance practice. In short, we also combined
two performances from Thailand and Indonesia by dancing together. With very
short training.
That morning our door was banged so fast.
Apparently it was Keng who was very beautiful with makeup on her body and face.
She woke us with his funny accent. She asked us to get ready and dress up. We
feel that we are already late because the program will start at 8:30 a.m. We
will also get ready and the routine every morning is a scramble for the
bathroom haha this is a massive oversleep.
Finally we arrived, there were already many
people there. We also took part in the event with great pleasure. Starting from
singing, receiving certificates, watching our videos which of course makes us
all feel ashamed of ourselves sometimes. Do not forget the mandatory activities
of each program are shared photos. We are served Filipino specialties if in
Indonesia we call it "Kwetiaw" it feels very good almost like the
taste with kwetiaw. However, this food has a larger amount of meat. Not only
that there are also other snacks such as bread and cakes. As well as drinks
that never miss the Coca Cola.
Grand Teaching Demonstration
It was time, I prepared for my grand
teaching demonstration, the preparation that I did was not much different from
before. Making lesson plans that are not free from revision, but that's all so
that my appearance is better. Just like before, every time before teaching,
surely my mentor and Ms.Fruelda would have a discussion. For this grand demonstration
I will teach Science in Grade3-Honesty with topic taking care of nose.
Not only did my mentor from school help,
the day before the grand demo was held all learning activities were closed due
to bad weather. Previously I really did not think that our mentor from the
campus, Mam Vicente, was very kind, she was very concerned about our
performance in the practical exams later. She did a discussion with me via
telephone, it was rather difficult with the limited language skills that I had
but had to do discussions via telephone resulting in quite a long chat.
However, I am very grateful that all of them did not help me prepare everything
from lesson plan, maybe I can't practice it as well.
Our buddies helped to print our lesson
plans. Yes, the print costs here are quite different from Indonesia.
Unexpectedly my mentor Ms.Fruel also printed my lesson plan. I feel very
fortunate to know and have a mentor as good as her. Not to forget my friend
Lishe and friends also helped me prepare learning materials. This time I not
only use power point presentation but also use color origami.
September 04 2018 at 6:30 a.m., I have been
dressed neatly and haven't arrived at school, nervous, it's like this, if I
have arrived there. I can't imagine teaching by a jury, there might be 4-5
people who will judge including my mentors. I got the first turn for the Grand
demo, which was at 8:10 a.m. I still had about 1 hour to prepare and neutralize
my nervousness, especially when I was mentally prepared. From the cold to the
stomach ache, I feel it all.
At 8 am I was ready to enter the
Grade3-Honesty room. Friends and mentors joined me in encouraging me. Learning
series like I usually do. But at that time I used the game of guessing aromas
as a motivational activity. I use origami paper as a color difference between
cotton and with perfume and efficascent oil. It was great, because the children
played an active role at the time they were fighting to get ahead.
As before, it was nice to teach in this
class because the children were not too difficult to manage and easily accepted
the material proved after the evaluation of the evaluation results most of them
got perfect grades. After carrying out my exam, the judges went to the
principal's office to give constructive criticism and suggestions. Yes indeed
this is not a perfect appearance, it can even be said to be far from good but I
have tried to give the best for myself and my children. I am very grateful for
the criticism that I received because it all helped to become a better teacher
in the future.
After that I went to the library while
waiting for my friends to finish the exam. Ms.Fruelda went to me and I also
said all thanks, of course, that cannot be described in words. A very short
meeting, we also took pictures together and selfie. It's so sad that there must
be a good bye.
Independent Teaching
I have gone through various observation and
Assistancehip processes. Actually I still need a lot of learning how to teach
well, especially in a different country, of course with a different culture.
Initially I was required to do independent teaching 3 times, but due to the
weather that was not supportive made the school closed when my turn taught for
the third time. As a result, I can only practice twice and in two classes.
Before the teaching process, I had to
prepare many things. All of that cannot be separated from the assistance of my
mentor, Ms. Fruelda and my friend in Philippines at that time were Lishe and
Angela.
Starting from the concept of learning to be carried out, the materials
to be used. Making Lesson Plans is actually difficult, in fact I used to make a
series of learning. Lesson plans here are actually shorter and obviously
certainly easier and the learning method applied in this is still fairly
simple, but sometimes language is a constraint and limited ability. Usually
before teaching I made a variety of learning media to be used but here I did
not make it because I was confused where I had to get the ingredients to make
it and the prices of the ingredients were good so I decided to use power point
presentation only.
At that time, August 30 2018, my first day
of practicing was when I had the opportunity to teach at Grade3-Honesty.
Spending too much time on Grade3-Humility when observation made me more
nervous, especially the faces I met at that time were foreign. But with the
guidance of my mentor I was able to get through those stressful days smoothly.
Yes, I was nervous at first, but over time I was able to enjoy it.
I taught with simple methods such as
opening, attending, reviewing previous learning, giving motivation, then
explaining my material that day about how to treat eye health. I was very happy
because my students were very active in learning so this simple method felt
fun.
I also held discussions using power point
presentation. I present the habits of treating eye health and inviting students
to give their reactions about what habits they see. If they feel they see bad
habits they have to give a thumb down but when they see good habits they have
to give a thumbs up. After that, they also carried out activity proper by
working in groups, they collaborated with their group friends guided by their
respective group leaders, they were assigned to write 5 good habits and 5 bad
habits. do not forget to also give me valuing learning, summing up learning and
giving evaluation in order to find out where the students understand.
At the end of the learning, students also
received assignments. I really enjoy practicum at grade3-Honesty, the kids are
so smart and active. After teaching there, I was given a break as usual I
always bought my favorite banana in the school canteen.
August 31 2018 I returned to the
Independent teaching I went to Grade3- Kindness, the number of students was
less than Grade3-Honesty but the children were no less exciting with
Grade3-Honesty. I hope I can return to teaching at Grade3-Honesty and Kindness.
